A shotgun-toting young man killed five people and critically wounded at least three others in a crowded Salt Lake City shopping mall before being gunned down. Police said the shooting started outside the downtown Trolley Square mall around 6:45 p.m. Monday, when a man began firing and then entered the mall. Witnesses described him as white, in his 20's and about 6 feet tall with brown hair. He was wearing a tan overcoat and a backpack, the Deseret Morning News reported. It was not immediately clear who shot the man but an off-duty police officer from Ogden, Utah, was reportedly involved in ending the spree. Hundreds of mall workers and shoppers scrambled and hid in washrooms, closets and fitting rooms for several hours before police and SWAT team members were able to clear the building after 10 p.m., the Salt Lake Tribune said. The shooter's identity had not been released early Tuesday nor was the exact number of people treated for wounds at two city hospitals, but at least three were in critical condition and another in serious condition late Monday. What are your thoughts on the increase shootings in public places? what is going on in this world

they shouldn't have killed him, but just let him keep running wild? this is another blatent reason why it should be against the law to carry a gun in public in the USA as it is here. it is against the law to carry any sort of whepon, yes of course we have the odd psycho who does it anyway but it has been several years since the last randem masiker, and you rarely hear of a rampaging knife wheelding psycho killing loads of innocent by standers before anyone can do anything about it. THis is the reason I have reservations about living in the states, inspite of how fantastic it is in other areas. Your laws thatare ment to protect your citisons put them at risk every day.

That's what happens when you teach people to kill.

These lads have seconds to make a decision, and if they had shot the gunman say in the groin, he could still have carried on firing and the death toll would have been even higher.

Would you have let him carry on killing or would you have eliminated him?

Hell I say illiminate him now.
Even if he'd had gotten the death penalty it would have been years before he died.
Those the only tragic part is we'll probably never know why he did it. If we knew that, we could maybe prevent things like this from happening in the future.
